The Legal Services Society is a non-profit organization which works to provide legal information, advice and representation services to people with low incomes. The society is accountable to the public and independent of the Canadian government.
Legal Aid BC offers various free legal information in publications available online.
Anyone may apply for a legal aid lawyer for help with criminal, family or immigration problems by going into the nearest legal aid office or courthouse location. It is also possible to call the Legal Aid Call Centre in at 604-408-2172 (Greater Vancouver) or 1-866-577-2525 (no charge, elsewhere in BC). Call Centre hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
The Legal Services Society also provides family law services, and you may qualify for a lawyer to advise or take your case if you are having family problems, including issues with: child or spousal support, parental custody& access, divorce & separation, common-law relationships, child protection/removal, adoption or abuse/ family violence.
