Elders Cultural and Activity Worker

Tasks and responsibilities:
• Assist with youth recreation and childcare activities
• Assist the elders and seniors program supervisors at Community Centres to recruit the percentage of aboriginal elders and immigrant seniors and reach shut ins who are currently not represented in activities that promote their vitality, well-being and health and assist them to engage and participate in Centre seniors, health, and social programs

• Plan and lead activities for elders that promote inclusion and reconciliation, sharing indigenous culture and history and engaging in activities/ dialogue that promote cross cultural understanding among participating multi-cultural elders/seniors

• Other duties as requested

Qualifications
-Some secondary education
-Some experience working/volunteering in a community setting and an understanding of how to be culturally competent in approach
– Knowledge of Aboriginal cultures and immigrant and aboriginal issues
-Must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
-Were registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year
-Intend to return to school on a full-time time basis during the next academic year
-Are a student in a a secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical program
-Are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and
-Are legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/terriotorial legislation and regulation

The elders and cultural and activity worker will work for a total 30 hours a week for 8 weeks @ the rate of $12.45/ hour.
